A recent article in Forbes discusses the importance of advanced manufacturing to the recovery of the United States economy. According Forbes, manufacturing comprises about 12 percent of U.S. gross domestic product.
Manufacturing is critical for both major cities and rural area across the country. An interesting report, Made for Trade, released by HSBC shows how Chicago is one of those cities with manufacturing making up 90 percent of the state’s total exports, totaling $63 billion in 2012.
